FRIT 7234: Infographic Assignment

The artifact to the right was part of an entire instructional design document for FRIT 7231. This document gives several assessment strategies and provides ways for teachers to view student data to steer future instructional decisions. I enjoyed the FRIT 7231 course and the steps of building an entire instructional design document. I think it was a great way to make one huge product in smaller manageable steps. I use this strategy with my students, utilizing the instructional strategy of "chunking."
FRIT 7234: Jackdaw and Mini Museum
|
This artifact was completed in Summer 2017 during FRIT 7234. This aligns with standard 2 as an example of assessment differentiation that could be used after a specific topic has been presented to the students. In the 21st century classroom, technology must be present to keep up with the expectations in the real world. Student centered inquiry activities prepare students for collaboration and provide problem solving skills in the workplace. In the infographic below I included a research article from the Journal of Baltic Science Education on inquiry-based learning, a CNN article on the study of iPad use in the classroom, the instagram account of a model teacher who practices inquiry-based learning, and a TED Talks YouTube video about the importance of student-centered learning and technology in the classroom. I currently teach in a 6th grade classroom and have applied and received technology grants to support my thesis that technology must be present. I have had higher student growth in the past year with technology available daily than in previous years when technology was only in the room weekly.
I identified these sources through searching techniques discussed in the FRIT 7234 course. GALILEO, CNN, and TED Talks are are widely accredited and reputable sources for educational information. I have had the opportunity to see Hope King in the classroom and know from personal experience the inquiry activities performed in her classroom captivate her students and visitors. In creating this infographic I did not think I faced too many challenges. I used the visme.co platform to create the infographic, and it was very easy to use. The biggest issue was trying to convey a concept or idea using very few words and make the information appear captivating to an audience. I enjoyed using this platform and I can see many uses for infographics in the classroom for instructional and informational purposes. Created using Visme. An easy-to-use Infographic Maker. |
